About the app

What is Mukashi Stories?
Mukashi Stories is a bilingual reader for children. Each line of every folk tale shows the source language, optional pronunciation (IPA), and per-word translations into your chosen target language — so kids learn vocabulary in context while enjoying a story. We currently support 13 languages across English, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Bengali, Arabic, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, and Turkish.

Is the app free?
Yes, the app is free to download. Every story's first page is free as a preview. To read the full story, subscribe (Monthly or Annual) or buy lifetime access.

What ages is this for?
Primarily ages 4–10, but anyone learning a second language alongside a fluent speaker (parent, grandparent, sibling) will get value from the trilayer reader.

Purchases and subscriptions

How do I cancel my subscription?
On your iPhone or iPad: open Settings → tap your name at the top → Subscriptions → Mukashi Stories → Cancel Subscription. Apple handles all subscription billing — we can't cancel on your behalf.

How do I restore a previous purchase?
Open the in-app paywall (Library tab → tap any locked story → swipe to page 2) and tap Restore Purchases at the bottom. Make sure you're signed into the App Store with the Apple ID you used to make the purchase.

Does Lifetime support Family Sharing?
Yes. The Lifetime plan is shareable with up to 5 additional family members in your Apple Family Sharing group — one purchase, six readers. Monthly and Annual subscriptions are not shareable (Apple doesn't support Family Sharing for auto-renewing subscriptions on this product).

I was charged but the app still shows locked content.
Tap Restore Purchases in the paywall first — that resolves 95% of cases. If it still shows locked, email us your purchase receipt (Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions, take a screenshot) and we'll sort it out within 48 hours.

Can I get a refund?
Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple ID, find the Mukashi Stories purchase, and request a refund. Apple typically responds within 48 hours.

Using the app

How do I save a word for later?
Tap any word in a story. The word-detail sheet opens with translation, pronunciation, and a Save to My Words button. Saved words appear in the Treasures tab as flashcards.

How do I change reading languages?
Settings (gear icon) → Reading language. Pick one source language (the language you're reading in) and one target language (your native language for translations).

How do I use the Parent Dashboard?
Tap the Parents tab (lock icon). Set a PIN the first time you open it. The dashboard shows reading streaks, words mastered, and lets you curate which stories are available.

Why is the app called "Folk Tales" on my home screen but "Mukashi Stories" in the App Store?
Same app. "Mukashi" means "long ago" in Japanese — the cultural framing for the folk-tale catalog. The shorter "Folk Tales" label fits better under the home-screen icon.

Privacy and data

What data does the app collect?
Only anonymized crash reports and basic usage analytics, never linked to your identity. We don't ask for an account or login. Full details in our Privacy Policy.

Is this safe for children?
Yes. The app contains no ads, no third-party tracking, no in-app links to the web, and no user-generated content. The only outbound network calls are anonymous crash and analytics pings to Firebase, used solely to fix bugs.
