Frequently asked questions

About the app

What is Wise Tales?
Wise Tales is an illustrated folk-tale reader for children. Every tale is read one sentence at a time, in a single language you choose from 13 — English, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Bengali, Arabic, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, and Turkish — and every tale can be read aloud. The tales work fully offline.

Is the app free?
Yes, the app is free to download. A selection of tales is free to read in full, and every other tale's first page is free to preview. Wise Tales Plus — a monthly or yearly subscription — opens the whole library.

What ages is this for?
Primarily ages 4–10, whether a child reads along or a grown-up reads aloud at bedtime.

Subscriptions and purchases

How do I unlock all the tales?
Open Settings (the gear icon) → Wise Tales Plus, or tap any locked tale and turn past its first page. Choose the monthly or yearly plan — the yearly one costs less per month. Everything is billed through Apple.

How do I cancel?
Open the iOS Settings app → tap your name at the top → Subscriptions → Wise Tales → Cancel Subscription. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep full access until the period you've already paid for ends.

I bought the one-time "Unlock all tales" purchase — do I have to subscribe now?
No. That purchase is honoured permanently, at no further cost, and no subscription is needed on top of it. If the tales look locked after reinstalling, tap Restore purchases.

How do I restore a previous purchase?
Open Settings → Restore purchases (also available on the subscription screen). Make sure you're signed into the App Store with the Apple Account you used to subscribe or purchase.

I subscribed but tales are still locked.
Tap Restore purchases first — that resolves almost every case. If it still shows locked, email us and we'll sort it out within 48 hours.

Can I get a refund?
Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in with your Apple Account, find the Wise Tales purchase, and request a refund. Apple typically responds within 48 hours.

Using the app

How do I change the language?
Open Settings (the gear icon) → Language and pick one of the 13. It changes both the tales and the app's own wording, straight away.

How does "read to me" work?
Open a tale and start narration — Wise Tales reads each sentence aloud and highlights the words as it goes. Under Settings → Read to me you can choose the storyteller voice, the reading speed, and a sleep timer. Narration keeps playing while the screen is locked.

Does it work offline?
Yes. Every tale and the narration run on your device — no internet connection is needed to read.

What are the notifications, and can I turn them off?
They're occasional — a new tale in your language, and now and then a note about Wise Tales Plus. They're entirely optional: the app asks once when you first set it up, and declining changes nothing else. You can switch them off at any time in iOS Settings → Notifications → Wise Tales.

Privacy and data

What data does the app collect?
Only basic, anonymised usage analytics — which tales are opened and finished, and how the subscription screen is used — never linked to your identity, and never the story text. There's no account or login, and we never see your payment details. Full details in our Privacy Policy.

Is this safe for children?
Yes. The app contains no ads, no third-party tracking, and no user-generated content. The only outbound network calls go to Firebase: anonymous analytics, the notification service, and a check for which tales are currently free.
